Media Day- BCS Championship Game (Saturday)
Today was media for the BCS Championship Game and the players arrived to a cloudy Sun Life stadium. Notre Dame will wear the home uniforms for this game while Alabama will wear the traditional all white. The head coaches were present today as well providing some interesting dialogue. It had that Super Bowl media feel reminding all of us that the game is close and the stakes are high. Nick Saban had to answer questions about the NFL and of course his focus was clearly on the game. He was quoted " I don't have any unfinished business in the NFL, I want to be a college coach". Saban also talked about player accountability being key to maintaining the high level of success at Alabama. Brian Kelly too was asked about the NFL and he said he would never say never when talking about the next level.

Much has been made of Barrett Jones injury and today he said he is "95" ready to play. He has sported the brace around the media but my sources have told me he is fine and actually hasn't worn it around the team hotel. the defensive players recognize that Notre Dame likes to run power football , but they also move guys around a lot. They will be ready for any" up tempo" wrinkles that the Irish might have installed over the last month.Quitnon Dial will play in his final game on Monday and is thankful for not getting suspended for the hit on Aaron Murray in theSEC title game. He said he was looking for someone to block and meant no harm.
- Alabama has 10 players from the state of Florida, three are key players,
- HaSean (Ha Ha) Clinton-Dix (DB) Orlando (Dr. Phillips High School)
- Amari Cooper (WR) Miami (Northwestern High School)
- Ed Stinson (DL) Homestead (South Dade Senior High School)
- AJ McCarron said Barrett Jones" is too smart for his own good and sometimes he has to remind him him I'm right as much as him!"
- Brian Kelly" We will be who we are and who we have been all season long on Monday night."
I have been one that hasbeen quite skeptical about Notre Dame's return to the top of college football. But I may have to eat some crow if they continue to recruit the way they have this season. After the latest all star game the Irish cleaned up on some top recruits and now sit at 1 in the recruiting rankings. They have 23 commitments right now and are feeding off the momentum of this magical season. Alabama is number two right now and has 21commitments so far. This may not be the last time we see these two against each other on a grand stage.
War in the Trenches
Games are won and lost in the trenches and both these teams exemplify this mantra. In November games during the most important time of the season both teams dominated with their run game.
- Notre Dame averaged 214.50 yards rushing per game
- Alabama averaged 213.75 yards rushing per game
Both rush defenses throttled opponents in the 2nd half of games this season. Notre Dame ranked first in the country in rushing yards allowed in the 2nd half this season, while Alabama finished 7th.
- The Crimson Tide allowed just 2.77 per carry in 2nd halfs of games this year.
- The Irish allowed just 2.78 per carry during the second half's this season.
Interesting tweet fact from the Sun LifeScoreboard
Alabama tweets are averaging 171 per hour and Notre Dame 153.
Sights and Sounds
Seems to me their are more Notre Dame fans here so far. There are also locals who have come out of the woodwork too support the Irish. Today at the fan fest an Alabama Pep Rally at 4pm while the Irish Pep Rally is at 7pm. Joe Theisman will be among the celebrities at fan fest today.
