Alabama took home the title over LSU last season.Alabama and LSU meet again with high stakes on Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Crimson Tide are the undisputed number one team in the nation looking to become the first repeat national champion since Nebraska in 1995. LSU has won 22 in a row at home and are looking not only to defend their SEC championship from last year, but the pride inside the program after the BCS title defeat. It has all the makings of another great game in this rivalry, until you look at the numbers. If the numbers dont lie then Alabamas machine is going to roll right through LSU leaving the Tigers relegated to a non bcs bowl game. But thats why you play the games everyone, this game has to be close right? We will find out soon enough on a grand stage in which the SEC will once again flex its muscles for the rest of the country to witness.Alabama at LSU: These two teams have combined to go 40-3 the last two seasons with 17 wins over Top 25 competition. The only loss not to each other was the Tigers to the Gators earlier this season in the Swamp. LSU is 5-1 following a bye under Les Miles and in my opinion must have some offensive wrinkle to steal some points versus the outstanding Alabama defense. LSUs offense last year couldnt score a touchdown in two games so it is really up against it Saturday night. I do believe in the home field and that will keep this game very close. The Tigers are 36-1 at night under Les Miles. The key for LSU is their offensive line and can it hold up against Bama. The Tigers have used five different combinations up front this season and may get Josh Willford back at guard. It will be the fourth consecutive game for LSU versus a ranked opponent and only their second conference game at home. Miles is 48-6 at home and three of his six losses were in over time.Alabama has dismantled teams early and often this season. They have outscored their opponents 104-3 in the first quarter and 208-31 in the first half. The offense has been a killer in the red zone converting 34 out of 35 trips which is best in the nation at 97. The defense leads the conference in every major category and leads the country in forcing three and outs at 49.5 of the time. It has been eleven and half games since an interception was thrown by Alabama. AJ McCarron is the nations number one rated passer and has 24 touchdown passes in his last 11 games. Jeremy Shelley has become a weapon converting all nine field goals this year and every extra point. He is one of two kickers in the country who has done that. The Alabama offensive line must handle the speed of LSUs front and limit the amount of hits on AJ McCarron.Stats: Alabama is 45-0 since 2008 when they rush for over 150 yards (Florida ran for 176 on LSU). TJ Yeldon leads the Tide with 16 runs of 12 plus yards on the season. LSU has held five of its eight opponents under 100 yards rushing. This game has featured the number one team in the nation four out of the last six times they have played. The score over the last eight meetings is Alabama 170, LSU 154. Les Miles has five wins over Alabama. The team that has led at half time has only won 3 out of the last 10 games in the series.Jarvis Jones should be getting Heisman consideration.Ole Miss at Georgia:Three weeks ago I can promise you no one thought this game would be the 2nd biggest match up on Saturday, but it is. Georgia is looking to return to Atlanta and the only thing in their way is Ole Miss and well Auburn. The Rebels can get bowl eligible with a win under first year coach Hugh Freeze. The Rebels have won back to back SEC games for the first time since 2009. The Dogs have consecutive wins over the Gators for the first time since 1989. Georgia will be a little flat early so the ground game and the offense will be the key to victory. Ole Miss which gave up 350 yards rushing earlier in the season to Texas is actually playing better versus the run and is ranked ahead of Georgia in the league statistics. Ole Miss running back Jeff Scott has seven touchdowns in his last six games and is 5th in the league in rushing. Todd Gurley leads the way for Georgia with 740 yards (3rd best) and 10 touchdowns. Ole Miss can throw it and they added Randall Mackey to the mix at receiver last week. Donte Moncrief is 2nd in the SEC with 5 touchdowns and Mackey caught 7 balls last week versus Arkansas. Jarvis Jones is the most dominant player I have seen in person in a long time. He has only played six games this season, but his impact in incredible. He leads the country in tackles for loss per game, forced fumbles per game and is 2nd in the country in sacks per game. The Rebel tempo attack will look to neutralize him by snapping quick and moving formations around.Stats: Georgia gets it done at half time as they have outscored their opponents 94-27 in the third quarter. Ole Miss is 4-0 when they score first while Georgia is 5-0 when they score first. The Rebel offense ranks in the top six in the SEC in total offense, rushing offense and passing offense. Georgia got 10 points off turnovers against Florida the most they have had since getting 14 against FAU.Around the LeagueHoly Snow Bowl Uniforms, Batman!Texas A&M at Mississippi State:This is the first top 20 match up in Starkville since 2001. These two teams have a history and the Bulldogs will wear all white to honor that Snow Bowl. The Bulldogs are still 6th in the nation in turnover margin at 13. They are 15th in the nation in scoring defense while holding Alabama to just two second half touchdowns last week. This is a match up of quarterbacks. Johnny Manziel is number one in the SEC in total offense, scoring and rushing. He has thrown for 2,216 yards which is just 38 yards shy of being number one in that category. Tyler Russell has completed 60 of his passes conference games with 7 touchdowns and just 1 interception.Vanderbilt at Kentucky:The Commodores look for three wins in a row. Jordan Matthews has averaged 106.8 yards per game receiving in conference play which is a league high. Jordan Rogers is coming off his first two touchdown game of the season and only has 2 interceptions after tossing 10 last year. Kentuckys defense has played better forcing 3 turnovers versus Missouri and holding them to 273 yards.Tulsa at Arkansas- The Hogs better show up or they will lose on their homecoming. Tulsa has won seven in a row after losing to Iowa St. in its opener. They lead the country with 35 sacks. Arkansas has rushed for over 100 yards in four consecutive games.Troy at Tennessee- The Volunteers have won nine non conference games in a row and look to start a late season push for a bowl game. They have lost four games in a row. Rajon Neal needs to get back on track in the ground game. He is 7th in the league in rushing.Missouri at Florida- The Tigers catch the Gators at the right time after an emotional loss to Georgia. Missouri leads the country in forced fumbles with 17 and the Gators lost four last week against the Bulldogs. The Gators are looking to finish 7-1 in the SEC. Both teams are ranked in the top 25 in total defense and in the bottom 25 in total offense. Florida has 11 interceptions on the season which is fourth best in the SEC. The Gators are still plus 8 in the turnover margin, even after turning it over six times last week. Mike Gillislee has not rushed for 100 yards in a game since October 6 when he went for 146 against LSU. Missouri back Kendial Lawrence ran for 108 yards last week against Kentucky.New Mexico State at Auburn- The Tigers will start Johnathan Wallace at quarterback this week after he threw two second half touchdowns against Texas A&M. Auburn is last in the league in scoring offense, total offense and first downs per game. The defense is giving up 29.9 points per game. New Mexico State has lost seven in a row and their defense gives up over 33 points per game.
