The BCS trophy could end up back in the SEC.The first BCS poll was released with a few surprises. Alabama at number one was expected, but the Gators at number two raised a few eyebrows. The Gators have been rewarded by the computers for a difficult schedule to begin the season. Florida has won on the road three times in six games and beat number six LSU at home. Floridas season will be defined over the next two weeks with match up against South Carolina 7 and Georgia 11. For the SEC fatigue people dont fret there is no shot at an all SEC title game unless of course everyone loses. Notre Dame looks to be in a good situation if they can win in Norman against Oklahoma; however I like the Sooners to win one for Big Game Bob. Keep an eye on the fly in the ointment which could be Oregon State from the Pac 12. The Beavers do not play USC in the regular season and get Arizona State and Oregon3 in Corvallis. The SEC has six of the top 12 and just about everyone controls their own destiny. LSU and South Carolina could win out and play each other again for the right to go to Miami. Georgia is the only team that needs help as they must win out and get a Gamecock loss. The SEC race is far from over and even Alabama will have to prove its mettle in back to back to back games against Mississippi State 12, LSU6 and Texas A&M 18. The game against the Tigers is in Baton Rouge, while the others are in Tuscaloosa. This past weekend was just another day at the office in the SEC. LSU showed it was not done yet, Bama showed it is the most dominant team in the country and Auburn continues to slide into an abyss with another loss. This league is filled with big games every week and this Saturday will be no different. The key is survive and advance and to also maintain an emotional balance. You have to be able to take the good with the bad and veteran teams like Alabama and LSU continue to prove that. Florida is on the hot seat this week as they will get an emotional South Carolina team after Steve Spurriers squad let a great opportunity slip away this past weekend. The "Hat" outdueled the "Visor".South Carolina went to LSU and fell apart late in the game. The Connor Shaw interception was out of character and not really a great call. The Gamecocks up one just needed to play field position, but a bootleg to the left forced a tough throw that became a horrible throw by Shaw. The Tigers found their ground game behind freshman Jeremy Hill and the rest was Tiger History. LSU has won 22 in a row at home and they are 18-1 under Les Miles following a loss. They held Marcus Lattimore to his third lowest total of his career and bounced back offensively going 11-19 on third down. Give credit to the Tiger defense holding South Carolina to a season low 211 yards.Alabamas win against Missouri was workmanlike and the only real concern was AJ McCarrons twisted knee. Early reports are that he will be ok and believe me he is key to their success. He has become a leader and one of the most efficient passers in college football. He has gone 227 pass attempts without an interception. The 321 yards and five touchdowns by Eddie Lacy and TJ Yeldon really open up windows in the passing game. I was surprised Missouri gambled early against the Tide offense. Alabama has too much experience on the offensive line to confuse them. You have to man up and play sound football and hope you can win some individual battles. Marcus Murphy was the lone bright spot for the Tigers with his kickoff return for a touchdown. He has four returns for scores this season, 1 KOR and 3 PR. The Tide has now scored 91 points on 17 forced turnovers this season. The Rest of the LeagueJeff Driskel broke Tim Tebow's school rushing record by a QB.Florida got the best rushing performance by a quarterback in school history has Jeff Driskel went for 177 yards against Vanderbilt. The Gators lacked the emotion and fire they displayed versus LSU and suffered nine injuries in the game. However they found a way to win on the road behind Driskel and great special teams play.Vanderbilt has changed the atmosphere in Nashville for a football game that much is for sure. James Franklin needs a few more players like Jordan Matthews who is a terrific receiver. The holding call on Matthews however did in the Commodores upset chances, nullifying a long Zac Stacy touchdown run. Vandy was the first team all season to score on Florida's defense in the 4th quarter.Texas A&M has the leagues leading rusher in quarterback Johnny Manziel with 676 yards. He also has 10 rushing touchdowns which is tied with South Carolinas Marcus Lattimore. Texas A&M was 15 for 22 on third down versus Louisiana Tech and needed every conversion for the 59-57 win. Kevin Sumlins offense how now gone over 600 yards three times in 2012. Ole Miss has shown it has a potent offense under Hugh Freeze in his first season. They have now gone over 450 yards in five of seven games this season after their win over Auburn. Bo Wallace continues to mature as the Rebels had their first game without a turnover this season. Ole Miss is now 4-0 when scoring first this season. The Rebels are first in the SEC in explosive plays from scrimmage with 116 (10 yards or more) on the season.Auburn did get Tre Mason going which I liked and think they need to continue to do so. Their offense in general lacks creativity and with their skill guys they need to try something different. At this point you are who you are, but if the defense can create turnovers and the offense can find big plays maybe the Tigers can win a few. They will be hearing plenty of noise in the system and that will be very difficult for the players to tune out. The Tigers are dead last in the SEC in explosive plays from scrimmage with just 71 (10 yards or more) all season. Mississippi State snapped a six game losing streak to Tennessee and improved to 6-0 for the first time since 1999. The Bulldogs have won 8 in a row which is the third longest streak in the country. I was very impressed with Tyler Russell who showed great touch on tough throws and seemed very comfortable in the pocket. The Bulldog defense continues to be the story, holding Tyler Bray to the lowest total of his career at 148 yards.Tennessee just cant seem to win a big game and once again let an opportunity slide by in Starkville. The Volunteers lost this game in the first half. The defense coming off a bye week was not ready for the Bulldog offense allowing 8 explosive plays (10yards) in the first 19 snaps of the game. AJ Johnson did have 21 tackles which was the first 20 tackle game by a Volunteer since 1964.
