Who will claim the Coaches' Trophy?

(Derick Hingle-USA Today Sports)

Game day brings us the answers to all our questions concerning the BCS Championship Game. This has a chance to be the most viewed title game of all time. The fact that Notre Dame is relevant again is great for television and college football. The SEC has won six titles in a row, which has created the " SEC fatigue" but I never thought I would see Notre Dame as the daring in a big game like this. Alabama has taken on the roll of the villain for neutral fans and it should be a pro Irish crowd tonight.

Three keys to victory tonight for Alabama

  1. Run the football to pass. I don't think the tide will run for 350 yards on the Irish like they did on Georgia but they must run effectively on first down. This will set up the play action pass in which AJ McCarron has thrown 11 td's on this year.
  2. Make Everett Golson a pocket passer. Golson would scramble to run early in the season but as the game has slowed down for him he has learned to scramble to throw. The Alabama front must create a pocket for him to only run forward and in doing so limiting his scramble attempts.
  3. Win special teams.  I think this one may surprise a lot of folks but I see a clear edge fir Alabama minus the field goal kicking. I believe the Tide can find some " hidden yardage" within the game on kickoff return, punt return and coverage for both units. I think field position will be a major factor early inthe game and special teams could help flip that one way or the other.

There is a lot at stake for Alabama in this game. They can win another national title and also become the first to win back to back since Nebraska did it in the mid 90's. They can out their stamp on the program as a " dynasty" with three wins in four years. Finally they carry the crown of the SEC looking for seven in a row with regards to national titles. More and more people have seen and heard enough of the SEC and want someone else to win it. Finally there is the historical pressure that sits on the Alabama shoulders tonight. There not facing Texas or LSU it's Notre Dame and that has become quite apparent in Miami. Two proud fan bases with history long enough to reach Cuba from where we stand. There is no way a Crimson Tide fan wants to let this opportunity get away. They can only hope that the team feels the same way.

Enjoy the game tonight and Check out SEC Tonight at 6:30 as I will appear live with my keys and prediction on CSS.
