The one thing Missouri and Texas A&M will find out for sure as they enter the SEC is that you win with defense. I have had many coaches ask me why you cannot tempo Alabama and LSU week in and week out and I try to tell them its because they have the same athletes on defense you have on offense. Auburn with Cam Newton and Florida with Tim Tebow had great offenses that won championships in recent memory. However in the biggest games (Auburn versus Alabama and Oregon)(Florida versus Alabama and Oklahoma) the defenses shined. If you have a great lights out offense like Auburn did, you still must have difference makers on all three levels of your defense. The best defenses are strong up the middle. That means defensive tackle or noseguard, middle linebacker and safety.

Can you name three great players from last years Bama team? Hmm Mark Barron and of wait lets try Auburn the previous year. Nick Fairley, Ok never mind back to Alabama the year before that would be Rolando McClain and ok lets get back to Florida and Brandon Spikes along with you get my point. Difference makers at all three levels combined with any offense can win championships. National Rankings for defensive numbers that was key to the SECs BCS Run 2011National Champion-Alabama 1 in Total Defense 2010 National Champion-Auburn 9 in Rushing Defense 2009 National Champion-Alabama 1 in Rushing Touchdowns allowed 2008 National Champion-Florida 2 in turnover margin 2007 National Champion-LSU 3 in turnovers caused 2006 National Champion-Florida 3 in interceptions Recruiting: Texas A&M already has five defensive lineman commits including (3) four stars tackles. Mississippi has three defensive tackles committed including a Juco All American Alabama has five committed defensive tackles already for 2013. LSU which is a perimeter rush team has three defensive ends committed already. Georgia has 12 defensive players in its list 21 commitments already. Florida has 9 defensive players in its 18 committed list including 4 linebackers. SouthCarolina has 9 defensive players and 2 athletes in its 18 commitments so far for 2013.

It is still early in the recruiting process but you can see where the league putsits emphasis and it appears Kevin Sumlin is taking notice. Missouri may have a tougher recruiting area for defensive lineman and may need to focus on theJunior College Rankings. Once they establish themselves in the SEC they could pluck a prospect or two from the South.
