Two Mississippi state championship contenders highlightweek two of the CSS High School Football Game of the Week schedule when theStarkville Yellow Jackets play at Madison Central Jaguars Friday night at 7:00p.m. CT. Both teams will be looking torebound from opening week setbacks this Friday night after Starkville wasbeaten by Noxubee County 29-8 in the Yellow Jackets first game and MadisonCentral lost to 6A defending state champion and nemesis Olive Branch on a lastsecond FG 31-28. It was the third timein the last year that the Jaguars had been beaten by Olive Branch including a40-35 loss in last December's state semi-finals.Starkville finished 2011 12-3 and Mississippi's 5Arunners-up after reaching the state finals before falling to Picayune38-21. Despite the season-opening loss,the Yellow Jackets are still 4th in the latest Max Preps Mississippi 5Arankings. Madison Central finished 201111-3, falling one game short of reaching the state finals. The Jaguars are 5th in the current Max Preps6A rankings and 7th overall in Mississippi. Recruit Watch:Starkville QB Gabe Myles is the headliner in this game. 247 Sports has the Mississippi State commitmentrated as a 3-star CB and the 7 prospect in the state of Mississippi. Other prospects to watch include StarkvilleOG Jawon Johnson who has been offered by Southern Miss and Indiana, and OLBStanley Higgins who has an offer from UL-Lafayette. Senior LB David Fair had a big game Fridaynight in his first game back after suffering a season-ending knee injury lastyear. Fair had 10 tackles and a sack fora safety. The Yellow Jackets are led by Head Coach Jamie Mitchell who is 17-10in his two-plus seasons with the school.Madison Central players to watch include senior QB JakeSchwartz who was 18-of-25 passing in the Jaguars opener for 225 yards and atouchdown while also rushing 13 times for 94 yards. Senior WR Keith Williams had eight catchesfor 81 yards. Madison Central is led byHead Coach Bobby Hall who is 71-25 the last eight-plus seasons, including a48-8 record the last four seasons. The two teams have split their last four meetings withStarkville posting a 16-14 win last season.
