ATHENS, Ga. - Bulldogs fans have woken up to a pleasant surprise on the morning of National Signing Day.
Wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie, a four-star talent according to 247sports, has committed and signed with UGA. Listed at 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., product received a late (and I mean late) offer from the school earlier in the week and ultimately chose Georgia over Ole Miss, Florida and Virginia Tech, among others.
Though small, McKenzie gives UGA a shifty, versatile offensive weapon with game-breaking speed coming off the line of scrimmage and out of the backfield. He caught 41 passes for 892 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior while also carrying the ball 22 times for 251 yards rushing and excelling as a kick and punt return man.
The decision caps a fortuitous series of events for the Bulldogs. The wideout's recruitment took an interesting turn over the past month as he received a handful of offers from a number of top programs. But even without getting him to take an official visit to Athens, the UGA coaching staff managed to lure in one of the top recruits in the state of Florida when it mattered most, perhaps owing to the fact that he was Sony Michel's teammate at American Heritage High School.
After McKenzie's announcement, the Bulldogs have 12 signed and faxed national letters of intent. The other players to have already done so are:
- DL Kendall Baker
- TE Jeb Blazevich
- DE Keyon Brown
- RB Nick Chubb
- LB Detric Dukes
- DB Shattle Fenteng (JUCO)
- DB Shaquille Jones
- WR Gilbert Johnson
- ATH Dominick Sanders
- WR Shakenneth Williams
- OL Isaiah Wynn
There will be other important announcements to keep an eye out for later in the day, including uncommitted defensive line prospects Lorenzo Carter and Andrew Williams.
