The August "doldrums" have begun. Lots to think about this time of the year; summer heat still with us so plan outdoor activities carefully; school opening just around the corner which may limit family activities outdoors; fall hunting seasons to begin very soon-prepare and get ready; fall temperatures will begin to set in.
So, how does one prepare for these changes? Quite simply plan, plan and do some more planning. One of the great benefits of having a "super" outdoor store like Academy Sports and Outdoors is to be able to complete your shopping needs at one location. I hate to shop and my approach is to "get in and get out", simply grab what I came into buy, get it purchased and get back home. However, there are those places where I get some enjoyment out of the "eye candy" I can view. Large "box stores", home repair superstores, and all sports stores are my idea of shopping fun. So how do I work this into my August preparation, and keep the family involved? Here are my suggestions;
1. Shop for school; I hate shopping for anyone other than myself. I know it is selfish of me to think this way, but it's just the way I am. However, I do enjoy shopping for others when I can influence their purchase. If you are shopping for the kids/grandkids return to school, consider the products available at super sporting goods stores like Academy Sports and Outdoors; clothing that is right for the season, cool and sporty. Backpacks for hauling the books, new shoes; the best variety of athletic shoes that are very fashionable. There are many other items to be found to prepare the kids for school opening.
2. Shop for the final outdoor activities of the summer; you still have time for some outdoor activities before school starts and hunting season begins. Don't forget you bug spray, first aid supplies, camping and hiking needs. Need to replenish your propane canisters? Need to replace other of your camping supplies? You'll find many selections at your local Academy Sports and Outdoors store.
3. Shop for your fall hunting season; if you are a small game hunter you will want to prepare for small game and migratory bird season. They traditionally are the first to open fall hunting. Check your gear early in August and make your shopping list. When visiting your local sporting goods store for school and outdoor activity shopping, include your needs for early hunting season. You will find the latest in hunting gear; from camo clothing to calls and lures. Don't forget to stock up on your ammunition needs. All these items are available at Academy Sports and Outdoors. Check on your footwear; it often sits for months and you may experience some dry rotting, or you may have noticed the need to replace it at the end of the last fall season, but just did not take the time to do so. Now is the time to shop and do your replacement with the latest in footwear being available this time of the year.
Okay, already got myself excited about my next visit to my favorite outdoor store. I can shop all day in a store that offers me so much "eye candy", where I can tell the helpful clerks "just browsing", and make up my mental list of what I need to double check on when I get home to prepare myself for what it to come, and to "justify" my next visit to my Academy Sports and Outdoors store.
Be prepared for your fall, and enjoy your shopping adventure.
