Though LSU lost a huge SEC showdown when it fell to Georgia on Saturday night 44-41, the Tigers still managed to score a victory later in the week when 247Sports’ No. 9-ranked strong-side defensive end committed to the Tigers. Davon Godchaux is one of the top defensive line talents in the southeast, but a torn ACL has cut short his senior season. On Monday, he decided to cut short his recruitment as well and turned down offers from Florida, Alabama and others to stay in state and play for the Tigers. Godchaux projects at either defensive end or defensive tackle at 6-foot-4, 285 pounds.
While Georgia-LSU was the big game on the college level, the Norcross-Mill Creek matchup on CSS was a huge game on the high school level, particularly in the state of Georgia. There were college prospects all over the field and this week, one more made his college decision when Norcross safety Jordan Noil committed to Maryland.
Another big-name commitment this week was Tyreek Hill, the No. 1 junior college all-purpose back in the country according to 247Sports. On Monday, he committed to Oklahoma State despite playing his high school football in Georgia and taking official visits to Alabama and Florida State. Ultimately the allure of that spread offense under coach Mike Gundy was enough to reel in the track star with 10.3 speed in the 100 meters.
This Friday night, an Alabama battle is brewing when the CSS Game of the Week features Montgomery-Carver hosting Auburn High School. Auburn LB Rashaan Evans, one of the nation’s most athletic defenders, will be a highlight waiting to happen at defensive end, but Alabama-commit Shaun Dion Hamilton will be manning the inside linebacker position on the other side in what should be a great matchup between talent-heavy programs.
