The Sandy Creek Fighting Patriots are current two-time defending GHSA State Champions and have won 32 consecutive games. The Patriots are 3-0 this season and have outscored their opponents 127-20. Sandy Creek is 43-2 the last four-plus seasons. The Patriots are ranked number one in Georgia's AAA Classification.
Sandy Creek is led by Coach Chip Walker who is 64-15 in his seventh season. He has followed in the footsteps of his legendary father Rodney Walker who has returned to head coaching since retiring from the Tyrone, GA school. Rodney Walker is now in his 39th season as a head coach with a record of 295-138-3 and current 4-0 record at Mary Persons. The elder Walker led three different teams to state championship games, winning in 1984 at West Rome. He later led Stephens County to the finals (his son Chip played on that team) and also Peach County.
Sandy Creek has had four players reach the NFL and two currently: WR Calvin Johnson (Georgia Tech, Lions), and DT Kedric Golston (Georgia, Redskins). The other two were OT Andrew Gardner (Georgia Tech, Dolphins) and TE Jabari Holloway (Notre Dame, Texans).
The Patriots current list of college football players is equally impressive and includes RB Rajion Neal and SAF Brent Brewer (Tennessee), WR Alex Chisum (Cincinnati), SAF Isaiah Johnson (Georgia Tech), WR Jarrett Davis (Louisville), DE Fred Jones (Indiana), QB Rio Johnson (East Carolina) and WR Braxton Lane (signed with Oregon but playing pro baseball in Rangers organization).
The Henry County Warhawks have just recently become a playoff contender in the state of Georgia and have started this season 2-1. The WarHawks have gone 35-14 the last 4-plus seasons (including back-to-back 10-2 seasons in 2007 & 2008) after going 11-69 in Coach Mike Rozier's first six seasons at the school. Prior to Rozier's arrival, Henry County had experienced only 8 winning seasons in the first 47 years of the program.
The WarHawks current list of college football players includes WR Jamal Rashad Patterson (Stanford), WR Chris Jackson (Alabama, Georgia Tech), QB Drew Little (Georgia State), TE Jim Teknipp (UCF, Troy), and star WR Markeith Ambles (who was at USC until withdrawing this past August).
