My Big Football Weekend in the ATL

For only the second time this season, I get to spend my entire football weekend in the ATL.  It all starts tonight with our Fan's Choice High School Football Game and our viewers picked one that will make all you recruitniks go crazy.  Tonight we've got Grady vs. Washington at venerable Lakewood Stadium just south of downtown.

Then tomorrow at 1pm, we've got the surprising Georgia State Panthers hosting Morehead State at the Georgia Dome.

First tonight's High School Game - it is loaded with college football prospects.  None bigger than Grady star Damian Swann.  If you have a favorite college football team, chances are nearly 100-percent that he's been offered by them.  Just this week, Damian was chosen to participate in the U.S. Army All American Game in San Antonio.  Rivals has him rated as the 8 "athlete" in the entire country, meaning he could end-up playing any number of positions, but most everybody projects him as a cover corner at the next level.  Tonight he'll play corner, safety, wide receiver, quarterback, return kicks and peg the CSS thrill-o-meter.

Swann just told Rivals in the last 24 hours that his favorites are Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Ohio State but most everybody believes it's between the Bulldogs and the Tide, something his Coach Ronnie Millen didn't dispute in our conversation with him.  That said, he says he has plans to attend the Florida at Alabama game tomorrow night and make his first official visit October 9th to Gainesville, FL.  Your chance to see him up close is TONIGHT on CSS!

Now the story within the story is Zach Witchett.  He's Washington's 3-star WR who is following in the footsteps of past Washington stars Branden Smith and Reshad Jones and has already committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.  He says he'd love to have Damian as a teammate next season in Athens but tonight he'll be lined-up on him when he plays corner and Swann plays WR and we'll probably see a good deal of the vice-versa as well.

There are several other big time prospects to keep your eye on tonight -

Grady RB Marcus Caffey, a three-star back that is reportedly leaning towards the South Carolina Gamecocks and 2-star DT Daron Wright, who likes Army and Washington3-star OT Davonta Rogers who apparently has Duke at the top of his list.

Should be a fun game tonight.  I invite you to join me along with Brian Jordan for all the action at 7:30 pm ET (right after In the Huddle at 7pm).  Meantime...quick turnaround for me in the morning.

Saturday at 1pm it's Morehead State at Georgia State on CSS.  The Panthers are surprising everybody, including me, with their talent just four games into their program history.  Bill Curry told us that he got calls from colleagues all over the nation after his team nearly upset 4 Jacksonville State in overtime a couple of weeks ago on the network.  After calling just one of their games I'm convinced GSU has a chance to become a national power in real quick hurry.

Morehead State Coach Matt Ballard, who has 14 players from the state of Georgia on his team, told us he knew the Panthers would have a lot of talent because of the crop of great high school players growing in Georgia every year.  But I think everybody has been taken with how quickly they've become competitive.  That said it's been a roller coaster season for the Panthers as well, as their 2-2 record would indicate.  That's probably most related to the immaturity of their young program.  Saturday's game should be a fun game.

Morehead State QB Zach Lewis is 8 in the nation in passing the ball and GSU QB Drew Little has taken hold of that position for the Panthers, even though coaches tell us Star Jackson will finally get in the game this week.  I say over-under on points scored in this game could easily be 80. My kind of game.

So tell me...who wins tonight and tomorrow and remember if you can't watch the game live...use that Comcast DVR!
