HOOVER, ALA.-- The 2012 SEC Baseball Tournament started Tuesday from Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
Winners from Day 1 were Kentucky (2-0 win over Ole Miss), Mississippi State (9-1 win over Arkansas), Florida (6-1 win over Auburn) and Vanderbilt (4-1 winover Georgia).
The top-seeded LSU Tigers will see their first action of the tournament Wednesday as they take on Mississippi State. Action gets started at 9:30 a.m.CT when Ole Miss and Arkansas play in an elimination game.
The evening session on Wednesday will be broadcast on CSS beginning at 4:30p.m. CT. In Game 1 Georgia will take on Auburn in an elimination game before the second seed South Carolina takes on Vanderbilt in the Gamecocks first action of the tournament.
The Diamond Dogs are 31-25 on the season and NCAA Tournament eligible already, but could really use a win to bolster Georgia's resume. Georgia will send Michael Palazzone to the mound with the hope that he can spark the team's bats while owning the mound.
"Well have to come out Wednesday and lean on Michael (Palazzone) to give us a good start and try to be more productive when we have chances to score," coach David Perno said after Tuesday loss.
South Carolina will face Vanderbilt 30 minutes following the completion of Game 1. Freshman left-hander Jordan Montgomery will start for the Gamecocks. He is 4-1 this season with a 4.42 ERA and has 40 strikeouts to just six walks in 12 appearances.
T.J. Pecoraro will head to the mound for Vanderbilt. Pecoraro is 1-4 with a 3.57 ERA this year. His only win came in his most recent outing, a complete-game shutout of Ole Miss on May 17 where Pecoraro struck out three while walking none.
