Shane Carden did something which I didn’t think he could do again. It wasn’t that he passed for over 300 yards in the East Carolina win over North Carolina. He did that for the sixth time in his career. It wasn’t that he had over 30 completions, he did that for the fourth time. The stat I was looking for is that he had three touchdown passes and rushed for three more touchdowns in the same game. In the last 15 seasons, he is the only FBS player to do that incredible feat twice in his career. Here are his complete stats in those two amazing games.
- 2012 vs. Marshall: 38-for-47, 439 pass yards, 3 TD passes, 0 interceptions, 3 TD runs
- 2013 vs. North Carolina: 32-for-47, 376 pass yards, 3 TD passes, 1 interception, 3 TD runs
The Green Wave had a great rushing game in their win over Louisiana-Monroe. Tulane had a season-high 253 rushing yards and had two scores on the ground in the victory. Senior Orleans Darkwa (still the best name ever by a Tulane player) had 118 rushing yards. It was his eighth career 100-yard rushing game and his first since Nov. 10, 2011. Here is his breakdown on 100-yard rushing games season by season.
- Freshman season: 5 times
- Sophomore season: 2 times
- Junior season: 0 times
- Senior season: 1 time
The Owls might have struggled through the air. They had just 69 passing yards and they only had 273 total yards for the game. But Rice did come through when it mattered. The Owls scored two touchdowns in the games’ final minutes (both off turnovers) and came back to defeat Florida Atlantic 18-14. The 273 total yards was the sixth lowest total by Rice in a game in which they won since 2000. Here are those top six or is it the bottom six? It doesn’t matter since a win is a win.
- 2004 vs. Houston: 191 total yards
- 2009 vs. UTEP: 227 total yards
- 2007 vs. Southern Miss: 236 total yards
- 2011 vs. Tulane: 237 total yards
- 2001 vs. Duke: 270 total yards
- 2013 vs. FAU: 273 total yards
