For all you passionate fans, you big-time stats guys, you BTSG's. Here are some notes, nuggets and tidbits of all things College Football.  Impress your friends it's time to kickoff!

Kolton Browning was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and rightfully so.  The gunslinger completed a career-high 43 passes on a career-high 68 attempts for 315 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Wake Forest.  The 43 completions put him on top of the Warhawk record book for career completions.  Here are the top five in Louisiana-Monroe history:

  • Kolton Browning: 827
  • Steven Jyles: 795
  • John Holman: 593
  • Doug Pederson: 556
  • Kinsmon Lancaster: 509

The Ragin’ Cajuns ran and ran and ran over Nicholls State this past week.  Louisiana had 620 total yards and won by the score of 70-7, for the school’s 500th victory.  That was the most points they have ever scored at Cajun Field, beating the mark in 1995 when they scored 56 against UAB.  The 10 touchdowns scored by Louisiana tied their highest ever, equaling the day they scored 10 back in 1946 against Troy.  Of those 10 touchdowns, eight were scored on the ground.  Freshman Elijah McGuire had three of the rushing scores while Torrey Pierce added a pair of his own.  The eight rushing touchdowns was the fourth time a Sun Belt team had that number in a game in the 2000s.  It was the first by Louisiana, but the second time this season in the conference.

  • 2013: Louisiana vs. Nicholls State
  • 2013: Arkansas State vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff
  • 2009: Arkansas State vs. Mississippi Valley State
  • 2003: Arkansas State vs. Tennessee-Martin

Speaking of Arkansas State, its fans seem to get the most when they watch sophomore Michael Gordon.  In the game against Arkansas Pine Bluff, Gordon rushed for 102 yards on just four attempts.  It helps when you have a 91-yard score.  This past Thursday, the Red Wolves faced Troy and he was at it again.  This time Gordon had 115 rushing yards on eight attempts.  He had just five carries in the first half, but each of his five attempts when for over 10 yards.  Here is a list of his longest carries this season:

  • 91 yards against Arkansas Pine Bluff
  • 64 yards against Troy
  • 12 yards against Troy (twice)
  • 11 yards against Troy (twice)

Earlier I mentioned the conference Offense Player of the Week, so I guess I should name the defensive one, too.  Winning the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week was Tyrell Pearson.  It was the first time he has ever won the award.  Pearson had two interceptions in the final minutes of the game to help the Jaguars to victory over Western Kentucky.  It was also the first time the cornerback had picks in a game where South Alabama won.  The other four he had in his career all came in losses.  Here are all the games where he had interceptions:

  • 2013: 2 against Western Kentucky (win)
  • 2012: 1 against Texas-San Antonio (loss)
  • 2012: 1 against Mississippi State (loss)
  • 2012: 1 against North Texas (loss)
  • 2012: 1 against Hawaii (loss)
