TROY

Wide Receiver Eric Thomas had a game he will always remember.  He had five receptions for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Troy’s win over South Alabama.  His first touchdown catch went for 62 yards.  That grab set a Sun Belt Conference Record for most career touchdown receptions with 25.  His second touchdown happened with seven seconds left on a lob pass from Corey Robinson.  South Alabama scored just seconds before to take the lead, but it did not last long.  The 26 career touchdown receptions are also tied for second for the most by an active FBS player.  Here are the top three:

  • Cody Hoffman (BYU): 28
  • Eric Thomas (Troy): 26
  • Marquise Lee (Southern Cal): 26

WESTERN KENTUCKY

Brandon Doughty got off to a great start last Thursday.  The quarterback led the Hilltoppers by throwing two touchdowns on their first two possessions en route to a 31-10 victory over Louisiana-Monroe.  Doughty had 370 passing yards overall which set a Western Kentucky record as a member of the FBS.  Doughty has been on fire in the first quarter of games all season.  Check out his stats in the opening 15 minutes.

  • First Quarter:   77.1 Completion Percentage – 4 TD passes
  • Other 3 Quarters:  63.8 Completion Percentage – 3 TD passes

LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE

Another quarterback in the Sun Belt that has succeeded lately has been the Ragin’ Cajuns’ Terrance Broadway.   The well traveled Broadway has thrown for at least 300 yards in each of the last two games.  But it is not just yards. Check out the comparison for the signal caller from the first three games of the season compared to the last two.

  • First three games: 60.1 Completion Percentage, 171 passing yards/game, 3 TD, 3 INT (1-2 team record)
  • Last two games: 71.7 Completion Percentage, 320 passing yards/game, 7 TD, 1 INT (2-0 team record)
